The Texas Bucket List

If you’re moving to Texas and you don’t know what to do when you get here, this is your list! And if you’re moving to Fort Cavazos, don’t just stay at home! I welcome you to our lovely state, start your adventure here!

  1. Visit the Fort Hood Museum.- If you’re a bit of a history nerd like I am, you’ll enjoy reading up on the camp’s history. And I’m sure the kiddos will enjoy walking around and seeing all the cool military vehicles and air copters. (For non-military members, you can get a daily pass at the Fort Hood Visitor Center.)

  2. Visit the parks. We have Long Branch Park, Carl-Levin Park, Lion’s Park, and Heritage Park. There also a few others around the town so go out and set up a picnic!

  3. Walk around the mall! There isn’t much but its still kinda fun to go window shopping. Also we have a Dillards, JCPenney, and some mom n pop shops in there! Oh and a Bath and Body Works (go on Candle Day)!

  4. Looking for activities? Check out the Great Escape Rooms that we have around town.

  5. While it’s summer, Lions Club Aquatics Park and the Long Branch Swimming pool are open to the public!

  6. If you’re into the arts, Vive Les Arts Theatre often has plays and the kids are so talented!

  7. If you need something just for the littles that is indoor, check out Luv 2 Play, Chuck E. Cheese, and Urban Air jump park!

  8. For an adult date night, check out Axed Out Texas or Painting With a Twist in Harker Heights.

  9. Movie Night? Check out Cinemark, Hollywood Theatres, or Cinergy Cinema.

  10. Check out the different seasonal activities at BLORA, Stillhouse Lake, or Dana Peak.

  11. Go shooting at the Indoor Gun Range or out at Kempner at Lone Star Gun Range.

  12. Take a trip to Central Texas College’s Planetarium!

  1. Have fun at Summer Fun USA and take a cooler to enjoy some time on the lazy river.

  2. Temple Railroad & Heritage Museum is a must stop by! Let the kids take a ride on the railroad!

  3. Have fun bowling at Spare Time. They also have a go-cart area, outdoor jungle gym and an arcade.

  4. If you enjoy wine, Central Texas has a few wineries around and you can find a few in Temple/Belton/Lampasas.

  5. The Czech Heritage Museum is another great museum to learn about some of the immigrants that established roots in the area.

  6. Check out the Temple Symphony Orchestra. The orchestra has played for many years and the concerts are always lovely.

  7. Check out the Bell County Expo center! There are often Rodeos, Comic Cons and other fun events happening.

  8. Stop by BUC’CEEs! I love this gas station and enjoy the 3 minute car wash!

  1. Top Golf: Looking to test your driving range? This is the place to be. They also have a location in Austin and you can establish memberships with them!

  2. Everyone loves to stop by the Magnolia shops! Grab a Fixer Upper City Tour while you’re at it!

  3. Cameron Zoo is a fun place to take the kiddos, and there’s a park to have a picnic at right after you go around for your walk~

  4. Visit the Ranches around and schedule a Horseback Ride.

(There are so many things to do here… I’m just gonna list them out.. no fancy captions…)

  1. JFK Assassination and Museum Tour.

  2. Visit the Cowboy Stadium.

  3. Check out the Historic Downtown area- there are plenty of parks to hang out at.

  4. Visit the Dallas Zoo.

  5. Book the Guided Chocolate Tour in Dallas

  6. Take the kids to LegoLand.

  7. Visit the Arboretum and Botanical Gardens.

  8. Visit the Presidential Library and Museum.

  9. Visit the Sweet Tooth Hotel.

  10. Stop by the big malls they have out there!

  11. Visit the Perot Science Museum.

  12. Visit the art museum alley. There are 3 or more art museums in the same general area.

  13. Check out the Illusion Museum.

  14. Check out the State Fair.

  15. Have fun at Great Wolf Lodge with the family.

  16. Right across the road is the GayLord. Check out the concerts there.

  17. Carrolton is Texas’s Koreatown! Enjoy Boba and other Asian cuisines.

  1. Check out the Capital of the state.

  2. Near the capital are several museums including the Blanton (Free on every 3rd thursday) and the History Museum.

  3. Check out U.T Austin’s campus!

  4. Visit the Guad (there are plenty of shops along the Guadalupe strip.)

  5. Visit the Domain mall (luxury brand shops are in the area).

  6. Visit the Round Rock Outlets.

  7. Want to hang out at an IKEA? There’s one in RoundRock!

  8. Check out Blues on the Greens (our free summer concerts) at Zilker Park.

  9. Check out the Botanical Garden.

  10. There’s an aquarium here.. but if I’m being real… its meh. Not worth it in my opinion.

  11. Check out the local coffee shops, but my favorite is Mozarts Cafe on Lady Bird Lake.

  12. Have fun at Cidercade Arcade!

  13. Check out the motorcycles and fast cars at the F1 Strip!

  14. Check out Barton Creek and have fun dipping your toes in the natural spring! (I do not suggest letting your puppers go in the waters in TX. We have a crazy algae here that has killed many dogs. So keep your babies safe. The algae won’t harm your human babies).

  15. Enjoy a bite at the food truck parks along Congress Ave.

  16. Walk around and see all the shops downtown.

  17. Looking for a fun night? Go clubbing on 6th street. Are you here for the gays? Check out 5th street.

  18. Visit the Thinkery with the kiddos.

  1. Check out the Mermaid Parades here.

  2. Check out Texas State’s campus.

  3. Visit the San Marcos River and book a tour with a clear bottom boat.

  1. Filipino chicken chain- they have Jollibees here!

  2. Swing by the Alamo and see the church.

  3. Enjoy the restaurants on the River Walk and enjoy a boat ride.

  4. Visit the North Star Mall.

  5. Visit the Shops at La Cantera.

  6. Ride a roller coaster and eat a turkey leg at Six Flags.

  7. Eat at the Tower of Americas.

  8. Have fun at a Main Event (they also have a location in Austin.)

  9. Visit the San Antonio Zoo.

  10. Visit the Botanical Garden.

  11. Visit the Japanese Tea Garden.

  12. Enjoy the brewery in the Pearl District.

  13. Walk around downtown and enjoy the local mom n pop shops.

  14. Check out the local art museums and shops.

  15. Stop by Lackland Air Force Base.

  16. Stop by Sam Houston Army Base.


  1. Visit the Space Center in Houston.

  2. Visit the Fine Arts Museum.

Galveston & Corpus Christi:

Enjoy the beach here but the best beach is South Padre.

Boca Chica: Visit Space X.
